The reflection was breathtaking

I was welcomed to Ireland by my Irish friend Aoibheann McCaul who I met at UCI. She lives to the North of Dublin in Malahide, a small town on the coast. As soon as I walked into the airport I knew I was not in the United Kingdom anymore. From the euro currency, the metric system, and the accent, it was quite evident that the Queen and her undies do not rule this country!

We stopped at Aoibheann's house for a bit to drop off my backpack and have some tea and toast. After our snack she took me around the area, by the Malahide castle and down to the marina, looking out into the ocean towards England. That night her parents welcomed me in with opened arms, loaded my plate with food and filled my glass with wine. After a large slice of pie smothered in thick cream Aoibheann and I headed off to meet up with two of her friends. From there we made our way to South Dublin where one of her friends was having a New Year's house party. We rang in the New Year with a countdown and spraying champagne bottles. I had a great time chatting with her friends, a lot of whom were involved in theater or film.

On the 1st Aoibheann took me driving around the Irish countryside, stopping at a waterfall and a lake to walk around and enjoy the fresh air. On our way back to Malahide we stopped in a tiny little town and got some heavy "Pub-Grub" and a pint of Guiness. I'm proud to be able to report that the Irish countryside is in fact very green and very beautiful.

On the 2nd Aoibheann took me walking around Dublin. We walked all over, visiting most of the well known spots; we actually had a bit of welcome sunshine too! I especially enjoyed seeing Trinity College, where she studied theater. Because of some slight miscalculations I barely made it on my train to Belfast. Oops...
