A refreshing nap later I was sitting in the sunshine at a cafe in picturesque little Santiago...eating a chorizo sandwich. Florette showed me around quickly and then turned me loose. I spent my day wandering around parks, through narrow streets, exploring the cathedral, and enjoying the nightlife with Florette's friends and a few beers.
After the hustle of Barcelona I appreciated the quiet vibe of Santiago very much. Walking around during the day I noticed that there were mostly young and old people. This was because of a large university population and a big senior community. Rarely did I see a middle aged man or woman. The atmosphere was a mix between laid back student life and retirement. A very odd mix, but very cool.
My favorite part of Santiago was the cathedral. It is absolutely immense and totally worth the 3 euros to access the cloister. I was the only person in the cloister for a long time. It was quiet and hummed with a peaceful energy. I walked around slowly, taking it all in, sat down for a while, snapped a few pictures, and smiled a big smile.
For such a short time Santiago seriously impressed. From watching students juggling and playing soccer at sunset to following a group of nuns through the windy streets behind the cathedral I had a great time.
My camera behaved very oddly during my time in Santiago, please forgive the jumble of looks
