Munich

Oktoberfest from Above, a Beer Garden to the Left, Family Fun to the RightA very European ride.

We arrived horribly sleep deprived and desperate for a place to crash. It was very cold and you could tell that it had been raining on and off for days. We immediately set off on a search for rooms but were discouraged when every hostel was booked and the cheapest hotels were offering their smallest rooms for close to 200euro. We decided to stash our bags in a luggage locker and see what Oktoberfest was all about and then we would see from there what we should do. We saw a trio dressed in Leiderhosen and Drindel who looked like they were going somewhere important so we followed them and sure enough, they took us right to Oktoberfest. I was surprised to find it as more of a family carnival than a beer-drinking fest. It was certainly both, but there was definitely a family atmosphere there. I was immediatly reminded however that I was still in Europe and although the carnival rides may have resembled my childhood fun at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, these rides had some European flair! We found the beer halls right as they were opening and join the early birds in the first round of liter sized brews. As the day wore on we hopped from tent to tent avoiding the rain and having our fill of pretzels, bratwursts, and beer we bought tickets for the soonest trains back to Paris at 3:15am!!!
