Wandering through the Park

On Sunday I woke up early to a bit of sunshine. Not one to stay inside when the weather looks promising I ventured out of the apartment with the goal of reaching the Bois de Boulogne, a huge park to the west of Paris center. I walked through the Latin Quarter to Notre Dame, crossed the Seine by the Conciergerie, through the Tuilerie gardens in front of the Louvre, down the Champs Elysee to the Arc de Triumphe and into the northern part of the Bois de Boulogne. Besides the great amount of trees and walking paths the fist thing that I noticed upon entering the Bois was the quiet. After living in the city for two and a half months the silence was striking. I had become used to the noise and bustle of the city; it was wonderful to enjoy stillness and silence. I spent hours wandering around the paths of the Bois, watching runners, horse riders, families on Sunday outings, and a group of old men racing remote controlled sailboats on the lake. The best part was I only scratched the surface of the huge park. I will return soon I am sure.
