Le Perche and Mont St. Michel

In early April, on a grey chilly day, I drove West from Paris in a rental car with four friends, Tom, Danielle, Vince, and Carlyn. Tom and Danielle had the idea to drive into the country and see an area called Le Perche, known for it’s beautiful countryside, small town charm, and regal Percheron horses.
We had a great time exploring an old Castle, and Tom surprised Danielle by getting down on one knee and proposing!

Tom and Vince wandering, but not lost (actually yes we were, trying to find food, nothing was open and we couldn't find the main town on foot.)

Afterward we dined at a restaurant in town where I saw a Pave de Cheval (Cut of Horse.) on the menu. While I felt just slightly morally corrupt I really couldn’t resist the temptation to know what horse tastes like. It was good, quality meat, tender, great sauce, different from beef, but not drastically, I didn’t not like it. If faced with the choice again though I think I would go for cow.

When we finally did find food, it was good stuff, if a bit hoarse.

Newly Engaged. Congrats guys!

Cool cannon and ball arrangement. I'm sure they did this on purpose.

We decided to settle in the car for a long journey out to the coast at Mont St. Michel, a dramatic fortress-like church built on a giant rock in the Atlantic Ocean. On the way we were treated to wet green countryside and an incredible sunset. We arrived at St. Michel after dark yet it was still fun running around on the beach, climbing the ramparts, and taking silly pictures.

The journey back to Paris was long and I spent several hours driving while my friends dozed. I loved being behind the wheel again. I drove through walls of rain, past dark silent pastures, watched lighting dance in the sky on the horizon. We were all exhausted when we returned early early in the morning.
